Hurricane season was brewing in the Bahamas and after many communications with a dozen different Caribbean countries, pleading for safe passage through their waters, the early hours of May 26, 2020 saw eight private sailing vessels from Canada, the US, and the UK, finally underway again. Though all but three countries refused us, the self-described ‘Full of Ship Flotilla’ was determined and anxious to reach Grenada before the season’s first storms started forming.
Mohini was in the lead, with her Captain, First Mate (me) and our then 9 and 11-year-old daughters aboard. The only other boat with kids aboard, Moonstone was always close behind followed by couples on Air Cool, Alegria, Makitso, Parem and Point Final. There was also Herbert the cat and Fluffy the dog and one solo sailor, the eldest in his 70's on SV Breeze.
